{"id":2906,"date":"2024-10-22T11:05:52","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T11:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apex-aiexperts.com\/?p=2906"},"modified":"2024-10-22T11:05:52","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T11:05:52","slug":"what-is-encryption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apex-aiexperts.com\/es\/what-is-encryption\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el cifrado?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to truly grasp the concept of digital signatures, we must&nbsp;<strong>first understand how encryption works<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Encryption<\/strong>&nbsp;is a key concept in cryptography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to understand the process of how transactions are \u201c<strong>signed<\/strong>\u201c, which is required to be able to spend your bitcoins (and other cryptocurrencies), you need to be familiar with the concept of encryption and the role it plays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tradecenterfx.com\/beginners-guide-to-digital-signatures\/what-is-encryption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cryptocurrencies<\/a>&nbsp;make use of encryption in a neat way, but in order to understand how it works, we must first learn about the&nbsp;<em>conventional<\/em>&nbsp;use of encryption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In cryptography, encryption is a technique used to protect the privacy of a message by&nbsp;<strong>transforming it into a form<\/strong>&nbsp;that can ONLY be read by the intended recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone else will see it as incoherent&nbsp;<strong>gobbledygook of random characters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is encryption?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Encryption<\/strong>&nbsp;is the process of transforming data like&nbsp;<em>readable text<\/em>&nbsp;(referred to as \u201c<strong>plaintext<\/strong>\u201d) using an&nbsp;<em>algorithm<\/em>&nbsp;(called a \u201c<strong>cipher<\/strong>\u201d) to make it&nbsp;<em>unreadable<\/em>&nbsp;to anyone except those possessing special knowledge, usually referred to as a \u201c<strong>key<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result of the process is&nbsp;<strong><em>encriptado<\/em>&nbsp;text&nbsp;<\/strong>(referred to as \u201c<strong>ciphertext<\/strong>\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the most basic sense, encryption means using \u201c<strong>fancy math<\/strong>\u201d and a set of instructions followed by a computer (an \u201c<strong>algorithm<\/strong>\u201d) to disguise and protect data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2022\/03\/03094916\/encryption-protects-data-150x150.png\" alt=\"Encryption protects data\" class=\"wp-image-220156\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if you\u2019re sending a message and encrypting it, it is encoded in a format that can\u2019t be read or understood by an eavesdropper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These algorithms scramble&nbsp;<strong>plaintext<\/strong>&nbsp;data into an incomprehensible text known as&nbsp;<strong>ciphertext<\/strong>, which looks like&nbsp;<strong>gibberish<\/strong>&nbsp;without the use of a special key that decrypts it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s an example of ciphertext that looks like gibberish:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">EjQbCXilQmoEssL0tP1395IKLEAwSEhptF6ogdoHGZ1LHgpeon7PFWcADod\/ir78LKdc72r17ZzwGCpQbd5XU7Tha7ESBhWe6EzGjxthdGBL+tSsj343yFTp6PgBOcZO<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(If you\u2019ve ever had one too many drinks, you\u2019ve probably typed something similar.\u00a0)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means once the data is encrypted using an algorithm, you can\u2019t interpret it or guess the original content of the data from the ciphertext. This is how your message is kept secure from unintended, prying eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So to summarize:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Encryption<\/strong>\u00a0is the process of\u00a0<em>converting plaintext to encrypted text<\/em>. This encrypted text is incomprehensible text known as \u201cciphertext\u201d. Since encrypted text can\u2019t be read by anyone, encrypted text hides the original message from people who aren\u2019t supposed to see it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decryption<\/strong>\u00a0is the process of\u00a0<em>converting encrypted text to plaintex<\/em>t. Basically,\u00a0<strong>it is the reverse of encryption<\/strong>. It is used to decrypt the ciphertext so that only people who are supposed to access and read the message are the only ones who can.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does encryption work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the illustration below, you can see how the&nbsp;<strong>data changes from plaintext to ciphertext&nbsp;<\/strong>y&nbsp;<strong>back to plaintext<\/strong>&nbsp;through the use of encryption and decryption \u201c<strong>keys<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2022\/02\/23134802\/how-encryption-works.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2022\/02\/23134802\/how-encryption-works.png\" alt=\"How Encryption Works\" class=\"wp-image-219720\" title=\"How Encryption Works\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The keys can either be&nbsp;<strong>identical<\/strong>&nbsp;(\u201csymmetric\u201d) or&nbsp;<strong>unique<\/strong>&nbsp;(\u201casymmetric\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which means there are two main types of encryption:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Symmetric encryption<\/strong>: This type of encryption is reciprocal, meaning that the SAME key is used to encrypt and decrypt data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cifrado asim\u00e9trico<\/strong>: This type of encryption uses two SEPARATE keys for encryption and decryption: a private key and a public key.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basically, if the sender and the recipient of the data use the SAME key to encrypt and decrypt the data, it\u2019s called&nbsp;<strong>symmetric encryption.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if the keys are DIFFERENT for encryption and decryption, then it\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>asymmetric encryption<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In cryptography, a \u201c<strong>key<\/strong>\u201d is just a large number (big, long number with many digits) or string of numbers and letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A key is used to convert the plaintext into ciphertext and vice versa (ciphertext into plaintext).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cryptocurrencies only make use of asymmetric encryption<\/strong>, so I\u2019m going to focus solely on asymmetric encryption going forward.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In order to truly grasp the concept of digital signatures, we must&nbsp;first understand how encryption works.
