Welles Wilder<\/a>, that&nbsp;helps traders evaluate the strength of the current market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RSI is similar to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tradecenterfx.com\/learn-forex\/how-to-use-the-stochastic-indicator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Estoc\u00e1stico<\/a>&nbsp;in that it identifies overbought and oversold conditions in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also scaled from&nbsp;<strong>0 to 100<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, readings&nbsp;<strong>of 30 or&nbsp;lower<\/strong>&nbsp;indicate oversold market conditions and an increase in the&nbsp;<em>possibility of price strengthening&nbsp;<\/em>(going up).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some traders interpret that an oversold currency pair is an indication that the falling trend is likely to reverse, which means it\u2019s an opportunity to&nbsp;<strong>buy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Readings&nbsp;<strong>of 70 or higher&nbsp;<\/strong>indicate overbought conditions and an increase in the&nbsp;<em>possibility of price weakening<\/em>&nbsp;(going down).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some traders interpret that an overbought currency pair is an indication that the rising trend is likely to reverse, which means it\u2019s an opportunity to&nbsp;<strong>sell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade5-RSI-overbought-oversold.png\" alt=\"RSI used on Charts\" title=\"RSI used on Charts\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the overbought and oversold indicators mentioned above, traders who use the Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicator also look for&nbsp;<strong>centerline crossovers.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A movement from&nbsp;<strong>below the centerline (50) to above<\/strong>&nbsp;indicates a<em>&nbsp;rising trend.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<strong>rising centerline crossover<\/strong>&nbsp;occurs when the RSI value crosses ABOVE the 50 line on the scale, moving towards the 70 line. This indicates the market trend is&nbsp;<em>increasing in&nbsp;<\/em>strength, and is seen as a&nbsp;<strong>bullish<\/strong>&nbsp;signal until the RSI approaches the 70 line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A movement from&nbsp;<strong>above the centerline (50) to below<\/strong>&nbsp;indicates a&nbsp;<em>falling trend<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<strong>falling centerline crossover<\/strong>&nbsp;occurs when the RSI value crosses BELOW the 50 line on the scale, moving towards the 30&nbsp;line. This indicates the market trend is&nbsp;<em>weakening in&nbsp;<\/em>strength, and is seen as a&nbsp;<strong>bearish<\/strong>&nbsp;signal until the RSI approaches the 30&nbsp;line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Trade Using RSI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>RSI can be used just like the Stochastic indicator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can use it to pick potential tops and bottoms depending on whether the market is overbought or oversold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a 4-hour chart of EUR\/USD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade5-rsi-oversold2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade5-rsi-oversold.png\" alt=\"Using RSI to pick tops and bottoms=\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>EUR\/USD had been dropping the week, falling about 400 pips over the course of two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 7, it was already trading below the 1.2000 handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, RSI dropped below 30, signaling that there might be no more sellers left in the market and that the move could be over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Price then reversed and headed back up over the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Determining the Trend using RSI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>RSI is a very popular tool because it can also be used to confirm trend formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think a trend is forming, take a quick look at the RSI and look at whether it is above or below 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are looking at a possible UPTREND, then make sure the RSI is&nbsp;<strong>above 50<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are looking at a possible DOWNTREND, then make sure the RSI is&nbsp;<strong>below 50<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade5-RSI-cross-downtrend.png\" alt=\"RSI goes below 50 on a downtrend\" title=\"RSI goes below 50 on a downtrend\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the chart above, we can see that a possible downtrend was forming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To avoid fakeouts, we can wait for RSI to cross below 50 to confirm our trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure enough, as RSI passes below 50, it is a good confirmation that a downtrend has actually formed.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Relative Strength Index, or RSI, is a popular indicator developed by a technical analyst named&nbsp;J.
