{"id":3766,"date":"2024-10-24T05:59:05","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T05:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apex-aiexperts.com\/?p=3766"},"modified":"2024-10-24T05:59:05","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T05:59:05","slug":"how-to-use-oscillators-to-warn-you-of-the-end-of-a-trend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apex-aiexperts.com\/es\/how-to-use-oscillators-to-warn-you-of-the-end-of-a-trend\/","title":{"rendered":"C\u00f3mo utilizar osciladores para advertirle del final de una tendencia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>En&nbsp;<strong>oscillator<\/strong>&nbsp;is any object or data that moves back and forth between two points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, it\u2019s an item that is going to always fall somewhere between point A and point B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2011\/01\/oscillator.png\" alt=\"Oscillator\" class=\"wp-image-106318\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of when you hit the oscillating switch on your electric fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of our technical indicators as either being \u201con\u201d or \u201coff\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More specifically, an oscillator will usually signal \u201c<strong>buy<\/strong>\u201d o \u201c<strong>sell<\/strong>\u201d with the only exception being instances when the oscillator is not clear at either end of the buy\/sell range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does this sound familiar? It should!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Williams %R, Stochastic, and Relative Strength Index (RSI) are all oscillators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oscillators work under the premise that as&nbsp;<em>momentum begins to slow<\/em>, fewer buyers (if in an uptrend) or fewer sellers (if in a downtrend) are willing to trade at the current price.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A change in momentum is often a signal that the&nbsp;<strong>current trend is weakening<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these indicators is designed to signal a possible&nbsp;<strong>trend reversal,<\/strong>&nbsp;where the previous trend has run its course and the price is ready to&nbsp;<strong>change direction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a look at a couple of examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve slapped on all three oscillators on GBP\/USD\u2019s daily chart shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember when we discussed how to work the Stochastic, Parabolic SAR, and RSI?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t, we\u2019re sending you back to fifth grade!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, as you can see on the chart, all three indicators gave buy signals towards the end of December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking that trade would\u2019ve yielded around 400 pips in gains. Ka-ching!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade6-leading-indicators-right2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade6-leading-indicators-right.png\" alt=\"PoD Chart\" title=\"Leading indicators giving correct signals.\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, during the third week of January, the Stochastic, Parabolic SAR, and RSI all gave sell signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And judging from that long 3-month drop afterward, you would\u2019ve made a whole lot of pips if you took that short trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around mid-April, all three oscillators gave another sell signal, after which the price made another sharp dive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s take a look at the same oscillators messing up, just so you know these signals aren\u2019t perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the chart below, you can see that the indicators could give conflicting signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, the Parabolic SAR gave a sell signal in mid-February while the Stochastic showed the exact opposite signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which one should you follow?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the RSI seems to be just as undecided as you are since it didn\u2019t give any buy or sell signals at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade6-leading-indicators-wrong3.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2016\/05\/grade6-leading-indicators-wrong4.png\" alt=\"Leading indicators giving wrong signals.\" title=\"Leading indicators giving wrong signals.\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the chart above, you can quickly see that there were a lot of false signals popping up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the second week of April, both the Stochastic and the RSI gave sell signals while the Parabolic SAR didn\u2019t give one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The price kept climbing from there and you could\u2019ve lost a bunch of pips if you entered a short trade right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You would\u2019ve had another loss around the middle of May if you acted on those buy signals from the Stochastic and RSI and simply ignored the sell signal from the Parabolic SAR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What happened to such a good set of indicators?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer lies in the method of calculation for each one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Estoc\u00e1stico<\/strong>&nbsp;is based on the high-to-low range of the time period (in this case, it\u2019s hourly), yet it doesn\u2019t account for changes from one hour to the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En&nbsp;<strong>Relative Strength Index (RSI)<\/strong>&nbsp;uses the change from one closing price to the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parabolic SAR<\/strong>&nbsp;has its own unique calculations that can further cause conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the nature of oscillators. They assume that a particular price movement always results in the same reversal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course,&nbsp;<strong>that\u2019s hogwash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2011\/01\/17181013\/hogwash.png\" alt=\"Hogwash\" class=\"wp-image-152625\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While being aware of why a leading indicator may be wrong, there\u2019s no way to avoid them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re getting mixed signals, you\u2019re better off doing nothing than taking a \u201cbest guess\u201d.
