Elliott Wave is a form of technical analysis<\/strong> that was developed by a dude who noticed that financial markets move in repetitive patterns due to underlying crowd psychology based on greed and fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in the old school days of the 1920-30s, there was this mad genius and professional accountant named Ralph Nelson Elliott<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By analyzing closely 75 years\u2019 worth of stock data, Elliott discovered that stock markets, thought to behave in a somewhat chaotic manner, actually didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he hit 66 years old, he finally gathered enough evidence (and confidence) to share his discovery with the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He published his theory in the book entitled The Wave Principle<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Elliott Wave?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Elliott explained that the upward and downward swings in price caused by collective psychology always showed up in the same repetitive patterns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called these upward and downward swings \u201cwaves\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He believes that, if you can correctly identify the repeating patterns in prices, you can predict where the price will go (or not go) next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what makes Elliott waves so appealing to traders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It gives them a way to identify precise points where the price is most likely to reverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other words, Elliott came up with a system that enables traders to catch tops and bottoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, amidst all the chaos in prices, Elliott found order. Awesome, huh?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, like all mad geniuses, he needed to claim this observation and so he came up with a super original name: The Elliott Wave Theory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But before we delve into the Elliott waves, you need to first understand what fractals<\/strong> are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fractals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What are fractals?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, fractals are structures that can be split into parts, each of which is a very similar copy of the whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathematicians like to call this property, \u201cself-similarity<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t need to go far to find examples of fractals. They can be found all over nature!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A seashell is a fractal. A snowflake is a fractal. A cloud is a fractal. Heck, a lightning bolt is a fractal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So why are fractals important?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One important quality of Elliott waves is that they are fractals. Much like seashells and snowflakes, Elliott waves could be further subdivided into smaller Elliot waves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
