Non-dealing desk forex broker? Market maker forex broker?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve started doing any of your own research&nbsp;on which forex broker to use, you\u2019ve probably come across a bunch of terms and an alphabet soup of acronyms such as DD, NDD, MM, STP, ECN, DMA, OTC, LP, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2021\/05\/22153600\/forex-acryonyms-soup-360x360.png\" alt=\"Forex Acronyms Soup\" class=\"wp-image-203129\" title=\"Forex Acronyms Soup\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And after coming across all these acronyms, you probably reacted with your own acronyms like\u2026OMG. WTF?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you haven\u2019t seen any of these acronyms yet, don\u2019t worry, you will. They\u2019re all over the interwebz so you\u2019re bound to see them. It\u2019s inevitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a lot of technical jargon that\u2019s used when describing forex brokers. Some of what you read or hear about are probably&nbsp;<strong>outdated, inaccurate, or even misleading<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, you may have read that retail forex brokers come in two types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Shady<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Non-Shady<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2021\/05\/22151614\/ronfl.gif\" alt=\"ROTFL\" class=\"wp-image-203125\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Okay, seriously now. Let\u2019s try that again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may have read that retail forex brokers come in two types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dealing Desk&nbsp;<strong>(DD)<\/strong>&nbsp;brokers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No Dealing Desk<strong>&nbsp;(NDD)<\/strong>&nbsp;brokers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s diagram this out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2021\/05\/22151855\/two-types-of-forex-brokers.png\" alt=\"DD and NDD Forex Brokers\" class=\"wp-image-203126\" title=\"DD and NDD Forex Brokers\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But wait! That\u2019s not all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two \u201ctypes\u201d didn\u2019t seem to be enough for the marketing folks from the retail forex industry, so they decided to use more acronyms in an attempt to differentiate forex brokers even further and make them sound fancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under each type of broker, new labels were conjured up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dealing Desk (DD) brokers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cMarket Maker\u201d (<strong>MM<\/strong>) brokers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>No Dealing Desk (NDD) brokers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cStraight-Through Processing\u201d (<strong>STP<\/strong>) brokers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cElectronic Communication Network\u201d and \u201cStraight-Through Processing\u201d (<strong>ECN\/STP)<\/strong>&nbsp;brokers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cDirect Market Access\u201d and \u201cStraight-Through Processing\u201d (<strong>DMA\/STP<\/strong>) brokers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s how the retail forex broker \u201ctaxonomy\u201d is popularly marketed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2021\/05\/22152537\/forex-broker-taxonomy.png\" alt=\"Forex Broker Taxonomy\" class=\"wp-image-203127\" title=\"Forex Broker Taxonomy\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WOW! Look at all those fancy acronyms!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there\u2019s a problem\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This is NOT accurate!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2021\/05\/22153953\/forex-broker-taxonomy-false.png\" alt=\"False Forex Broker Taxonomy\" class=\"wp-image-203132\" title=\"False Forex Broker Taxonomy\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here\u2019s how reality actually looks like:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2021\/05\/22155047\/forex-broker-taxonomy-true.png\" alt=\"Accurate Forex Broker Taxonomy\" class=\"wp-image-203139\" title=\"Accurate Forex Broker Taxonomy\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of how retail forex brokers present themselves on their website or market their services, there\u2019s really only one \u201ctype\u201d of forex broker for retail traders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the most interesting part is that forex brokers are NOT even brokers!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have you noticed that the word \u201cbroker\u201d is not used on the websites of many so-called \u201cforex brokers\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(And for the ones that do, it\u2019s primarily for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Search_engine_optimization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEO<\/a>&nbsp;purposes to help their website show up in search results on Google.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why is this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because technically, they are not really brokers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There is actually no such thing as a retail forex \u201cbroker\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calling a forex broker a \u201cbroker\u201d is a&nbsp;<strong>misnomer,<\/strong>&nbsp;which is defined as a \u201cwrong or inaccurate name or designation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a \u201cforex broker\u201d isn\u2019t really a broker, then what is it then?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the image earlier provides a hint, the answer to this question is like the relationship status that some of you all might\u2019ve displayed on Facebook in the past\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But have no fear.
