Looks harmless?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like you want to hug it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is this a Husky doggo or a wolf?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before you go try and pet it, you better be able to tell the difference before you get your face bit off and blood starts gushing everywhere and you attract an entire wolf pack providing them an all-you-can-eat buffet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the same way with Heikin Ashi charts and traditional Japanese candlestick charts, you better be able to tell them apart or your trading account might end up bleeding red.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With&nbsp;<strong>traditional Japanese candlestick charts<\/strong>, each candlestick represents the&nbsp;<strong>open<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>high<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>low<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>close<\/strong>&nbsp;that the price makes within the current time period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2020\/04\/18162634\/japanese-candlestick-ohlc-example.png\" alt=\"Japanese Candlestick Example\" class=\"wp-image-174166\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With&nbsp;<strong>Heikin Aishi candlestick charts<\/strong>, each candlestick doesn\u2019t just include price movement within the current time period,&nbsp;<strong>it also includes price information from the past<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2020\/04\/18163032\/jackie-chan-confused-about-heiki-ashi-calculation-780x495.jpg\" alt=\"Jackie Chan confused about Heikin Ashi calculation\" class=\"wp-image-174168\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s see how a Heikin Ashi candlestick is calculated and take it one step at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, let\u2019s throw up a Heikin Ashi chart of GBP\/JPY to use as reference:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2020\/04\/18152135\/Heikin-Ashi-GBPJPY-daily-chart-example.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2020\/04\/18152135\/Heikin-Ashi-GBPJPY-daily-chart-example-780x442.png\" alt=\"Heikin-Ashi candlestick chart: of GBPJPY\" class=\"wp-image-174150\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you can see, it\u2019s similar to a traditional Japanese candlestick except that the&nbsp;<strong>open and close are calculated differently<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just like a regular Japanese candlestick, each Heikin Ashi candle has an&nbsp;<strong>open<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>close<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>high,<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>low<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that there are FOUR parts of the Heikiin Aishi formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OPEN of a Heikin Ashi candlestick equals the MIDPOINT of the previous candle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you look closely at the chart, you\u2019ll notice that e<strong>very new candlestick starts from the middle of the previous one<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>Open<\/strong> = [(Open price of previous candle) + (Close price of previous candle)] \/ 2<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CLOSE of each Heikin Ashi candlestick equals the&nbsp;<em>average<\/em>&nbsp;value between the four parameters: open, close, high, and low:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>Close<\/strong> = (Open + High + Low + Close) \/ 4<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HIGH of a Heikin Ashi candlestick takes the&nbsp;<strong>actual high<\/strong>&nbsp;of the period. This could be the highest shadow, the open, or the close. Whichever is the&nbsp;<em>highest<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>High<\/strong> = Maximum Price Reached<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The LOW of a Heikin Ashi candlestick takes the&nbsp;<strong>actual low<\/strong>&nbsp;of the period. This could be the lowest shadow, the open, or the close. Whichever is the&nbsp;<em>lowest<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>Low<\/strong> = Minimum Price Reached<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The general idea behind the Heikin Ashi candlesticks is that they&nbsp;<strong>smooth the price action<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bpcdn.co\/images\/2020\/04\/18164854\/heikin-ashi-reduces-market-noise-780x251.png\" alt=\"Heikin Ashi reduces market noise\" class=\"wp-image-174173\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of the market noise shown with traditional Japanese candlestick charts are&nbsp;<strong>minimized<\/strong>&nbsp;with the Heikin Ashi candlestick chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a summary of the Heikin Aishi formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>Heikin Ashi Formula:<\/strong>\n\n<strong>High<\/strong> = Maximum of High, Open, or Close (whichever is highest)\n<strong>Low<\/strong> = Minimum of Low, Open, or Close (whichever is lowest)\n\n<strong>Open<\/strong> = [Open (previous bar) + Close (previous bar)] \/2\n<strong>Close<\/strong> = (Open + High + Low + Close) \/ 4<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let\u2019s learn how&nbsp;Heikin Ashi candlesticks&nbsp;are calculated and plotted on a chart.
